Latta's to open toy store across from Pullman Square
HUNTINGTON -- Latta's School Supply, a locally owned and operated store on 4th Avenue, will open a new toy store in October on 3rd Avenue across from Pullman Square.
Latta's Toy Station will provide a mix of educational products, developmental toys, classic toys and games, according to a news release. Product offerings will include interactive displays that improve dexterity, cognitive skills and challenge a child's ability to think.
The 2,000-square-foot store will be located at 943 3rd Avenue. The store's management plans to create four new positions, including a coordinator that will develop special events such as game night, teen night and strategy night for grandparents.
The store also will stock developmentally appropriate toys for autistic and special needs children.
"We will continually strive to improve the learning process through play," said owner Mike Mullarky.
The original Latta's store will continue as an education and arts supply center for teachers, parents and students.
Founded in 1898 by John Stuart Latta of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Latta's is one of the oldest school supply companies in the United States. It has been at the 1502 4th Ave. location since 1955 with a variety of categories including: arts and crafts, audio and visual, children's books, early childhood, games, mathematics, multilingual, office supplies, science, social studies, teacher resources and more.
