News in brief: Cabell Huntington names award recipient

HUNTINGTON -- Tresa Litteral, an administrative secretary in Cabell Huntington Hospital's Pastoral Care Department, has been selected as an Ambassador Award recipient.

The Ambassador Award is the highest customer service award a Cabell Huntington employee can receive. Litteral is just the third hospital employee to receive the award.

Employees who receive the award demonstrate a history of fostering positive communication and relations within their hospital service area by serving on committees, taking advantage of volunteer opportunities and supporting community health activities beyond the scope of the hospital.

"Like prior recipients Tresa is an impact employee who rolls out the red carpet for fellow staff members or visitors to Cabell Huntington at times when a safe and comforting environment is needed," said Barry Tourigny, Cabell Huntington's vice president of human resources, in a press release.

The award was created two years ago to recognize a Cabell Huntington Hospital staff member, volunteer, unit, department or vendor for consistently applying the hospital's mission, vision and values toward patient and customer service.

InfoCision honored as a Wellness Champion

AKRON, Ohio -- On Nov. 13, Akron General Medical Center honored InfoCision Management Corporation as a silver level winner of the second annual statewide Wellness Champion Award in the corporate category. As a silver winner, InfoCision received $3,500 to reinvest into its employee wellness program.

Attorneys selected for Best Lawyers in America

Atomic Distributing given achievement award

HUNTINGTON -- Atomic Distributing Company of Huntington has been awarded The Miller High Life Achievement Award, Eastern Region for 2008. This special honor is a symbol of hard work and diligence in brand building and retail execution. It was based on retail sales volume, execution elements, as well as meeting all the standard requirements set by the Miller Brewing Company. These standards include temperature controlled warehousing, e-commerce and route accounting systems.

Atomic out performed 35 other distributors of like size that met all the criteria in the eastern United States.

KDMC named Top Hospital for Cardiac Care

ASHLAND -- For the third year in a row, King's Daughters Medical Center (KDMC) has been named by Thomson Reuters as one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals for cardiovascular care. The annual study is used to identify the 100 U.S. hospitals that are setting the nation's benchmarks for cardiovascular care.

The study -- 2008 Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success -- examined the performance of 970 hospitals by analyzing clinical outcomes for patients diagnosed with two prevalent cardiovascular conditions --' heart failure and heart attacks; and two high-volume interventions -- coronary bypass (open heart) surgery and angioplasty. The study equally weights performance criteria that reflect the use of evidence-based medicine, good clinical outcomes, high procedure volumes, great efficiency and reasonable cost.

Huntington Floral moves to a new location

HUNTINGTON -- Patty Willems, owner of Huntington Floral, announces that the shop has relocated from 3322 U.S. 60 to 219 4th Ave., in the old Dannie Booth's Floor Covering building which is located beside of F&L Electronics and just above the new Walgreens Pharmacy. The new location offers a large parking lot with an easy in and out onto 4th Avenue. Huntington Floral has been serving the Tri-State area for 83 years.

Businessman awarded at national convention

ASHLAND -- Ron Cartee, president of Cartee Land Development, Inc. and a top 20 Arby's franchisee, received the Arby's President's Award, the company's highest honor, at the chain's Worldwide Franchise Convention in Orlando, Fla.

The President's Award is given to the Arby's franchisee who has demonstrated exemplary performance and selfless leadership within the system. Only one franchisee is recognized with the President's Award in a system that operates more than 3,700 restaurants world-wide. The award is given every other year to recognize accomplishments over a two-year period.

"From increased development year over year, to first-rate operations and employee training, Ron Cartee and the entire team from Cartee Land Development, Inc. represent the true definition of operational excellence at Arby's," said Tom Garrett, president and CEO, Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc., in a press release.

Cartee opened their first Arby's in 1990 in New Boston, Ohio. The company now owns and operates 24 Arby's restaurants throughout West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio, opening as many as three restaurants in one year. Two new locations are now under construction to open in early 2009 in addition to nine more locations over the next few years. Cartee has recently remodeled several Arby's locations with an all brick design, and these restaurants have been used as examples to the entire Arby's system as state-of-art facilities. New photography company opens

HUNTINGTON -- A Modern Focus, LLC (AMF), a new company that focuses on a contemporary and fresh approach to photography and design, is co-owned by Annalisha Johnson and Patrick Smith of Huntington. This home-based business provides photographic services including wedding, portrait, event and commercial photography. In addition, they provide graphic design services including logo, brochure, Web site and direct mail design to small businesses and individuals. Currently a part-time business, AMF has been building its client base since July 2007, and hopes to expand its services through the local and Tri-State area.

Johnson graduated from Marshall University with a bachelor's of fine arts, and has been working as a graphic designer for the past 10 years. She keeps photography close to her heart, and loves being able to use her designer's eye in her photography.

Smith has been working and teaching in the IT industry for over seven years. When he's not in front of the computer, he's behind a camera taking photographs. His attention to detail lends itself to producing quality Web sites and images.
