Retailer acquires Dan's Sport Shop

November 04, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Dan's Sport Shop, located at 1155 4th Ave. in downtown Huntington, has been acquired by Global Liquidation Center, a Proctorville-based discount retailer.

"The purchase of a well-known local retailer such as Dan's Sport Shop is not only smart business, but that it also reinforces our commitment to bring shoppers back to downtown Huntington," said Greg Crabtree, owner of Global Liquidation Center, in a prepared release.

Dan's product line will not change, and it will remain at its current location, said Cheryl Wright, project coordinator for Global Liquidation Center. Greg Rowsey will remain as the store manager, she said.

Andy D'Antoni opened the store in 1950. Rowsey bought it in 1999. He said none of his three sons chose to follow his footsteps in the business, so he decided to sell it.

Global Liquidation Center specializes in selling name-brand consumer merchandise at discounted prices. It has a retail store, furniture store and hardware store in Proctorville, a clothing store on 4th Avenue across from the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center and new retail stores in Cross Lanes, Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and Burlington, N.C.
