New culinary store Whisk planned for 4th Avenue
HUNTINGTON -- The owner of Mug and Pia gift shop across from Pullman Square is planning to open a second shop downtown.
Whisk is planned for the corner of 9th Street and 4th Avenue, in the former Wender's location. It will be a culinary supplies store, with utensils, pots and pans, as well as gourmet treats and even cooking supplies for kids.
Lake's first store, Mug and Pia, which stands for Most Unique Gifts and Paper Items Anywhere, opened in spring 2008 at 939 9th Ave.
NEW BBQ: Carolina Barbecue has opened in the Prichard Building, in the location formerly occupied by D.P. Dough.
Owned by Shawn Stowers, the restaurant serves fresh beef and pork, which are hickory-smoked daily.
"I buy it fresh, smoke it, chop it and serve it on a bun or a plate," he said.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the restaurant, located at the corner of 6th Avenue and 8th Street. For more information, call 304-730-3763. D.P. Dough has relocated to the 1520 block of 4th Avenue.
LAW FIRM MOVES: The former C.M. Love Hardware building is now the home to Campbell Woods Bagley law firm, which is relocating from 517 9th St.
The firm now occupies the top two floors of the three-story Love building, which is located at the corner of 10th Street and 3rd Avenue. After renovations are fully completed, it will occupy the first floor as well.
The building was renovated by developers Philip Nelson and Jim Weiler of Capital Venture Corp.
JOBS: The Work Force Development Resource Center in Lawrence County, Ohio, has continued to do pre-screening for job applicants to Special Metals Corp., which has local locations in Huntington and Burnaugh, Ky.
Some salaried employees for Special Metals were laid off earlier this month, but the positions for which the Resource Center is accepting applications are entry level jobs -- hourly general laborers, she said.
The center started taking applications for the company in the spring, which was the first time in quite a while that the business had been in a hiring pattern, Christian said.
"We are still working with them, and we take applications on Wednesdays," Christian said. The applications are accept at the Work Force Development Resource Center, located at 120 N. 3rd St. in Ironton
INVESTING: The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce is gauging local interest in an investment workshop to be conducted by local investment expert Larry Beuhring. One-hour sessions would be held on Thursday afternoons at a time and dates to be determined, and would focus on how to make money on your favorite stocks.
