Uncork & Create opens location in Barboursville
BARBOURSVILLE -- There's a new business that aims to give Tri-Staters an opportunity for an evening out and tap into their inner artist.
Uncork & Create now has a location in Charleston, which opened last summer, and one in the Huntington area, which opened Aug. 8.
Locally owned and operated by West Virginia natives Danielle and Larry Snidow, Uncork & Create Huntington is located at 3421 U.S. 60 East in Barboursville, near Outback Steakhouse.
Participants are provided paint, a 16-by-20 canvas, an easel and brushes, and a local artist leads them step-by-step through the process of creating their own artwork. Guests can bring their own adult beverages and snacks "to help the creativity flow," the company says.
It's not paint-by-number. Guests begin with a blank canvas and, with guidance from the instructor, go step by step through the painting and make it their own.
"People who say they can't even draw a stick figure can still do Uncork & Create," Danielle Snidow said. "It's pretty magical."
Uncork & Create Huntington also offers sushi-making classes and wine glass painting events.
The concept was inspired by Moon River Studio in Wheeling, which was founded by a friend from school in Glen Dale, W.Va., Danielle Snidow said.
It took off so well in Charleston that Danielle quit her job managing the Dollar Energy Fund in three states to manage Uncork & Create.
"Some people say it's better than therapy and other people like the social aspect of it because they go out and meet people," she said.
For others, it's inspiration, she said, particularly moms "who have been raising kids and were creative in their youth but kind of put it away.
"It's done things I've never expected," she said. "One client had a daughter pass away ... and said this has helped her in overcoming that paralyzing feeling of not wanting to do anything after something like that happens."
It also offers private events, children's birthday parties, bachelorette parties, sorority events and corporate team building.
The schedule of events open to the public can be found at www.uncorkandcreate.com, and each has openings for 40 people. Cost is $25-45 per person plus tax, and registration is at www.uncorkandcreate.com. With questions, call 304-552-3331 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Information also can be found on Facebook.
