Tri-State in Training: Seminar on finding new cutomers set for Friday
FINDING CUSTOMERS: Unlimited Future Inc. will host a free seminar for business owners on how to find new customers. It will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at 1650 8th Ave. It will cover simple tips on finding customers and increasing your business. With questions, contact Ursulette Huntley at 304-697-3007.
GREEN BUILDING: A workshop titled "Introduction to Green Building and Energy Efficiency Concepts" is scheduled next month in Beckley. It will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Workforce West Virginia Career Center in Beckley, and will include an overview of green building and sustainable design.
The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED rating system will be covered, with a special emphasis on using the existing built environment, brownfield redevelopment and tourism related projects. Other topics: the environmental and economic benefits of green building, sustainable design practices, best management practices on improving energy efficiency, and financial resources available in West Virginia to assist small businesses.
The workshops will be led by Adam Krason of ZMM and representatives of West Virginia University, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, and the West Virginia Department of Energy. SPECIAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE: West Virginia Advocates is sponsoring a conference to address special education law and advocacy on Nov. 19 to 20 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Charleston.
The two-day special education conference is designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, advocates and attorneys, social workers and other service providers.
The event will include special education statutes and regulations, tests and measurements of progression and regression, effective letter writing, advocacy strategies and more.
Registration for the conference will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, and include a continental breakfast.
Registration costs $100 for a parent or guardian of a school-age child with a disability, $150 for two parents or guardians of a school-age child with a disability, or $150 for a professional.
Registration fee includes continental breakfast, hot lunch and afternoon refreshments on both days, two books, and a copy of West Virginia Department of Education policy 2419.
Stipend funds are being made available to people with developmental disabilities and family members of people with developmental disabilities through funds from the West Virginia Developmental Disabilities Council.
West Virginia Advocates is the federally mandated protection and advocacy system for individuals with disabilities in West Virginia.
