'Green' Kroger becomes W.Va.'s largest
MORGANTOWN -- Kroger is going green.
The supermarket chain opens its largest West Virginia store today, with 86,000 square feet of space in Morgantown. The store has about 50 skylights the company says take advantage of natural light and reduce electricity use by one-third on sunny days.
All lights are computerized, and those left on inside storage areas are set to turn off automatically.
Other computers control refrigeration and heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Restroom sinks and toilets have automatic sensors to conserve water.
Kroger says it has a positive economic impact, too: The store has created 150 new jobs.
