Thai House Restaurant opens at Pullman Square
HUNTINGTON — Thai House Restaurant has opened at Pullman Square.
The restaurant, located in the space formerly occupied by Moe’s Southwestern Grill and Dos Amigos, hosted a ribbon-cutting Monday before opening for lunch at 11 a.m. The event followed a private party on Saturday night to work out some of the kinks at the new location.
The family business is co-owned by mother-daughter team Phatrawadee Hoonsuphab and Supatra “Patra” Kamtui and is in its third location since its founding seven years ago. Most previously, the business operated in Winfield and before that, Dunbar, W.Va.
The family relocated to Huntington so that Kamtui could attend classes at Marshall while continuing to run the business. It was previously run by her mother and stepfather, Paradorn Hoon, who has since retired.
Thai House offers a variety of authentic Thai dishes, with spice levels from mild to spicy. Hoonsuphab is the chef for the restaurant and has previously worked at a fine Thai restaurant in Germany and also as an international cook at the Grand Floridian Resort at Disney World.
They were excited about moving to Huntington, Hoonsuphab and Kamtui said.
“We’ve had customers from Dunbar and Winfield stop by already,” she said. “I would like to say thank you to our customers. ... We could not do it without them.”
The restaurant seats about 75 and has about seven employees, including some of Kamtui’s friends from Marshall.
“They wanted to help,” Kamtui said. “It’s friends helping friends.”
She is the manager of the business, while her mother is the cook and designed the decor. The interior of the restaurant was remodeled with the help of contractor Jay Bailey, said Parker Ward, who along with his wife, Amy Ward, serves as broker for Pullman Square.
The restaurant is a great healthy option, Parker Ward said.
“To have fresh foods in our market is great,” he said. “I think this just adds another dimension to Pullman.”
Hours for Thai House are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday. It will be closed Sundays.
