Hager is Marshall Employee of the Month

HUNTINGTON -- Teresa Hager, a program assistant in the University College, has been named the Marshall University Employee of the Month for May, according a press release.

A Marshall University employee for two years, Teresa was nominated by Firas Al-Samarrale.

In the nomination Firas wrote, "Terri is an absolute joy to work with. ... She is the first face the students see when they enter our office and regardless of the students' query, easy or hard, she goes out of her way to make sure they are being helped in the best way possible."

Hager was presented with a plaque, MU Bookstore discount card, a Sodexho gift certificate and a check for $100 by President Stephen J. Kopp.

 

Physician to offer medicine, and psychiatric services

HUNTINGTON -- April Baisden, MD, has joined Valley Health and will offer internal medicine to adults and psychiatry to patients of all ages.

Baisden graduated from the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and completed her residency at the West Virginia University School of Medicine Charleston Division, specializing in internal medicine and psychiatry. Baisden will begin working July 1 at Valley Health-Highlawn.

Local lawyer named to Super Lawyers list

HUNTINGTON -- Christopher L. Slaughter, an employment and labor lawyer in the Huntington office of Steptoe & Johnson, was named one of the 2009 class of West Virginia Super Lawyers.

Cabell Huntington Hospital adds staff

HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Huntington Hospital has named a new physician to its staff and a new finance director.

Dr. Vincent Battista, a fellowship-trained orthopedic hand surgeon, has joined the Department of Orthopedics of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and the medical staff of Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Battista, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, recently returned from active duty as chief of surgery with the 10th CSH (Combat Support Hospital) in Tallil, Iraq, where he also performed orthopedic surgeries and duties as a flight surgeon. He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his hand surgery fellowship training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Battista joins Alan Koester, MD, chief of the orthopedic hand section in the department, and Steve Novotny, MD, who are both fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons specializing in hand and upper extremity care.

The orthopedic hand team also includes Battista's wife, Rene Battista, PA-C. She is a retired U.S. Army officer and a Distinguished Gulf War veteran with 20 years of experience as a physician assistant in specialties including orthopedics, family practice and emergency care.

Drew Hefner, CPA, has joined the Finance Department at the hospital as director of finance.

Before joining Cabell Huntington, Hefner was most recently the chief financial officer for River Park Hospital in Huntington.

Hefner has more than 18 years of health care finance experience. He earned both his master's and bachelor's degrees in business administration from West Virginia University

Rich resides in Huntington with her husband David and their son Judson.

Burton named director of OLBH sleep lab

Sheila Burton has been named director of the Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Sleep Lab, Respiratory Care and Neurological Services.

Burton joined OLBH in 2001 and has worked as the manager of the OLBH Sleep Lab since February 2006. Burton graduated with a bachelor's degree from Ashworth College. She earned a registry in polysomnograph technology and is certified in respiratory therapy.

Senior facility names resident services director

RUSSELL, Ky. -- Alice Caudill, a licensed practical nurse, has been promoted to resident services director at Morning Pointe Ridge, a senior care facility in Russell.

Morehead State food services worker honored

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State University Dining Services and Aramark's Senior Food Service Director Tony Johnson was named the company's "Food Service Director of the Year" for the Mid-Atlantic region.

The award was presented by Aramark Higher Education Regional Vice President Paul Justen and Vice President of Operations Daniel Palombo at the company's Mid-Atlantic Region Summit and Awards Dinner.

There was only one Food Service Director of the Year Award given in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The region consists of 41 colleges and universities in Kentucky, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia and western Pennsylvania.

Johnson has been with at the University for two years and has been with the company since 1993.

Johnson started his career as an hourly associate while he was a student at Ball State University. He was promoted to student manager and went on to work with accounts in Indianapolis, Cleveland and Chicago in the 14 years prior to his tenure at Morehead State.
