Airport projects win awards
HUNTINGTON -- Huntington Tri-State Airport recently received two industry awards for its runway rehabiliation project.
The project won Airport Project of the Year Award in the Airfield Project Category by the Southeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives, according to a news release. The project also won a Quality in Construction Award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association.
The work done between April and October of 2012 involved repaying the airport runway and other work, but officials wanted make sure the project did not interrupt airline and cargo activity. Much of the work was done overnight, and the actual paving of the 7,016-foot runway was done in one 54 hour period, using three paving teams.
Kimley-Horn and Associates was the project engineer and West Virginia Paving Inc. was the primary contractor.
