Barboursville Goody's store to close in June

April 11, 2008 @ 11:24 PM

BARBOURSVILLE -- Goody's will be closing its Barboursville department store this year.

It likely will close in June, said Kristin Alms, spokeswoman for the Tennessee-based department store chain, which sells moderately priced family clothing and items for the home.

"It's closing because, unfortunately, it was an under-performing store," Alms said. It opened in the Barboursville shopping plaza, near Value City, in 2004.

Alms did not know exactly how many people work there, but said Goody's stores typically have between 20 and 30 part-time workers.

It will have close-out clearance sales prior to the closing, but Alms did not know when they would begin.

In all, there are about 370 Goody's stores in 20 states, including stores in Nitro, Logan, Charleston, Ashland, Ky., and Portsmouth, Ohio.

Alms said the Barboursville store was the only in this region to close. Goody's also is closing four stores in South Carolina.
