Discount clothing store opens downtown
HUNTINGTON -- Fans of Value City, Marshall's department store, and Gabriel Brothers will have a new store to hit downtown.
Global Liquidation Center opened this week at 926 4th Avenue.
Owned by Greg Crabtree and managed by Cheryl Wright, the discount store carries men's, women's and children's apparel, as well as shoes and accessories. Some of the merchandise at the store right now is from name brand department stores. Name brands include Crocs, Under Armour, Adidas and Victoria's Secret.
All are being sold for at least 50 percent off the retail price, often more than that, Wright said. The merchandise is either out of season or overstock from other retailers, Wright said. Global Liquidation Center gets it for discounted prices and thus sells it for less.
"We want to bring shopping back to downtown Huntington," Wright said.
Right now, Global Liquidation Center is trying to get a feel for what people want, she said.
"Now we're trying to see what moves the most," she said.
Things are still coming together at the store, she said. It still does not have a sign up outside, but it does have merchandise in the windows of the shop, which most recently was Furniture Gallery. It also does not have air conditioning, but is expecting to get that next week, she said.
But people are still buying, Wright said.
"The draw is price, variety and constant, moving inventory," she said. "You can come in here and look around and find really nice things for great prices."
Right now, the store is not selling damaged items, but it likely will sell those in the future, she said. They will be placed in a special section and marked so that the customer can tell what the defect is.
The store has five employees for the time being, but may add more, Wright said.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For more information, call Global Liquidation Center at 304-781-1045.
