Captain D's, Shoney's co-founder dies at 83
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Raymond L. Danner Sr., one of the founders of the restaurant chains Shoney's and Captain D's, has died. He was 83.
The Danner Co., the firm he started after retiring in 1989 as Shoney's chairman, confirmed his death on Saturday at his Nashville home.
Francis Guess, executive vice president of the Danner Co., told the Tennessean that his life was a true rags-to-riches story.
Shoney's was started by Alex Schoenbaum in 1947 with one drive-in restaurant in Charleston, W.Va.
