American Benefit Corp. celebrates 60th anniversary
HUNTINGTON -- American Benefit Corporation is celebrating its 60th anniversary today, Sept. 4, with an open house at the Frederick Hotel. The event goes on from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the hotel in the 900 block of 4th Avenue.
Employees and clients have received invitations to the event today, but all are invited to stop by, said Patty Bostic, director of human resources.
"We're going to have food, drink and prizes," she said. "It's just a celebration and a way for us to show our clients and the community how much we appreciate them."
American Benefit Corp., located on the fifth floor of the Coal Exchange Building at the corner of 4th Avenue and 11th Street, was established in 1948 as the Raymond Hage & Co. insurance business.
Today, the company offers clients consulting, health administration and actuarial services with 60 years of experience in the health care and pension industries. It's a third-party administration firm that specializes in customized group benefits for large multi-employers trusts, and union health and welfare funds.
It offers health, dental, vision, life, disability and prescription plan administration, pension plans, and actuarial and consulting services. Each service is customized to fit the client's specific needs, according to the business Web site.
American Benefit Corp. does a lot of work with teamsters. It pays health claims for the Taft-Hartley market, which encompasses various unions, said account executive Robyn Dilley.
The business changed its name to American Benefit Corp. in 1978 and now has about 50 employees. It's headed up by Chairman and CEO Bill Eastwood.
Bostic invited anyone who would like to know more about the company to the open house today to enjoy some hors d'oeuvres and talk with employees about American Benefits' offerings.
"Anybody who would like to stop by and say hello, we'd love to see them," Bostic said. "And anybody who wants to come in and see who we are and what we do (is invited) because we think we're one of Huntington's best-kept secrets."
