Sobonya earns Realtor of the year award
HUNTINGTON -- The Huntington Board of REALTORS to announces Kelli Sobonya with Century 21 Homes and Land Real Estate Inc., as the 2008 Realtor of the Year.
Cabell Huntington Hospital graduates six
HUNTINGTON -- The Clinical Pastoral Education Department at Cabell Huntington Hospital has graduated six members of the clergy.
A recent graduation ceremony at the hospital ended a one-year residency program for four students and an 11-week summer internship for two others.
Graduates of the residency program were: Danny Adams, Lexington, Ky., Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); Sandy Adams, Russell, Ky., ordained Southern Baptist minister; Rob O'Lynn, Proctorville, Ohio, Church of Christ; and John Eshelman, Hamilton, Ohio, ordained United Methodist minister.
Students completing summer internships were: Pam McCalla, Huntington, ordained Presbyterian Church USA; and Mike Prestera, Huntington, ordained Permanent Deacon, Roman Catholic Church.
Cabell Huntington is one of 350 accredited Clinical Pastoral Education centers in the country. This year marks the 20th anniversary for the program at Cabell Huntington. More than 250 student chaplains have been trained in interfaith professional education for the ministry since 1988.
Students can be an ordained, licensed or commissioned as a leader or a qualified lay visitor.
They also must have a capacity to work in an interfaith context and be willing to work in a sometimes chaotic environment and function for the betterment of the patient, family and healthcare team.

Southern States employee selected for training
RICHMOND, Va. -- John McCallister of Ona, W.Va., an agronomist for Southern States Cooperative, Inc., has attended a comprehensive three-day training program designed to qualify him as a "Certified GrowMaster Specialist."
The training program is tied to the Southern States' GrowMaster program and is designed to augment the existing knowledge base of employees involved in advising the co-op's customers on issues related to crop production. The program provides new and updated information and qualifies for continuing education units (CEUs) by the American Society of Agronomy, a national organization that certifies crop advisors and agronomists through examination.
Pediatric dental specialist welcomes new patients
HUNTINGTON -- Dr. Kara M. Schafer, pediatric dental specialist, is now welcoming new patients into her practice.
Schafer received her master's degree and certificate in pediatric dentistry from the Ohio State University and Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. During her second year of residency, she was chosen as chief resident by the department faculty. Schafer received her doctorate of dental surgery from the Ohio State University in 2006. While attending OSU, Schafer was the recipient of numerous awards including the Outstanding Student in Pediatric Dentistry, Outstanding Student in Orthodontics and the prestigious Lewis & Basch Memorial scholarship for outstanding patient management.
Aside from her private practice in Huntington, Schafer teaches and practices part-time at Nationwide Children's Hospital dental clinic. She is active in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and is a board-eligible diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Additionally, She maintains membership in the West Virginia Association of Pediatric Dentistry, the Ohio Association of Pediatric Dentistry, the Ohio Dental Association and the American Dental Association. Schafer is a member of the Christian Dental Association and has participated in dental missions to Honduras and Colombia.
In her time away from practice, she enjoys speaking Spanish, reading, scrapbooking and cooking. She lives in Ironton with her fiance, Jeremy, and their four-pound Pomeranian, Peanut.

Family members have the choice of more than 100 themes. Customized music and titles add to the professional look of the video production.
Once complete, Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home directors transfer the tribute to DVDs. The tribute video can also be uploaded to a personal Web site.
