OLBH employees become master trainers

RUSSELL, Ky. -- Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital employees Diana Williams and Mary Ellen Conley have achieved master trainer status for "A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falling," an evidence-based program designed to reduce fear of falling, stop the falling cycle and increase the activity level of older adults who have concern of falling.

Williams and Conley earned their master trainer certifications by attending a two-day training session. As master trainers, Williams and Conley now can teach the "A Matter of Balance" curriculum to others. Coaches teach the class in pairs. Those who should consider the training include representatives from churches, civic organizations and senior housing complexes.

Falls have become the leading cause of injury-related ER visits and hospitalization for older adults in Kentucky. More than 90 percent of hip fractures among adults 65 and older are the result of a fall.

Williams and Conley work with OLBH's Healthy Community Services (HCS), the umbrella under which the hospital conducts its various community and faith-based health ministry initiatives. Those individuals who are interested in training to teach "A Matter of Balance," or those age 60 or older who are interested in taking the class, should contact the HCS office at 606-833-3366, or toll-free at 888-635-2200.
