BUSINESS PLANNING: Business Planning for Profit is a 12-hour course that teaches the steps of starting a profitable business and creating an action plan.
The first class is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Unlimited Future, 1650 8th Ave., Huntington. The course will run six Mondays, ending on October 29th.
The text for the course is filled with checklists, lists of important questions to ask, worksheets, Internet resource guides and much more. Qualified students who complete this course and have a written business plan will be eligible to apply for a West Virginia Micro-loan for amounts between $5,000 and $15,000 to help with start-up expenses.
Tuition for the course is based on a sliding scale according to income. The lowest income levels pay only $75 for the entire six-week course. Full scholarships are available for veterans. Call 304-697-3007 or enroll online at www.unlimitedfuture.org/courses.php.
CONSTRUCTION TRAINING: A low-cost Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction training session will be offered by the West Virginia Division of Labor. It will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30, at the Charleston Workforce West Virginia Career Center.
The 10-hour OSHA course is a two-day seminar intended to provide construction safety and health training to workers of all levels.
Successful completion will result in the issuance of a certificate and a 10-Hour OSHA card.
Cost is $49. This training is provided by the West Virginia Division of Labor in partnership with the Women's Business & Training Center.

SPECIAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE: West Virginia Advocates is sponsoring a conference to address special education law and advocacy on Nov. 19 to 20 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Charleston.
The two-day special education conference is designed to meet the needs of parents, educators, advocates and attorneys, social workers and other service providers.
The event will include special education statutes and regulations, tests and measurements of progression and regression, effective letter writing, advocacy strategies and more.
Registration for the conference will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, and include a continental breakfast.
Registration costs $100 for a parent or guardian of a school-age child with a disability, $150 for two parents or guardians of a school-age child with a disability, or $150 for a professional.
Registration fee includes continental breakfast, hot lunch and afternoon refreshments on both days, two books, and a copy of West Virginia Department of Education policy 2419.
Stipend funds are being made available to people with developmental disabilities and family members of people with developmental disabilities through funds from the West Virginia Developmental Disabilities Council.
West Virginia Advocates is the federally mandated protection and advocacy system for individuals with disabilities in West Virginia.
