Rail plan public meeting is Dec. 11

CHARLESTON - The West Virginia State Rail Authority and the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) will hold public meetings next month on the development of the West Virginia State Rail Plan.

A meeting is planned from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the West Virginia Division of Highways District Two Headquarters, 801 Madison Ave., Huntington. Another is planned Dec. 10 in Lewisburg.

The plan is supposed to spell out the existing and future role of freight and passenger rail services in the state.

Participants at the meeting will have an opportunity to learn about the state rail plan, ask questions and state their views and opinions for consideration in the development of the plan. A formal presentation by state Rail Authority representatives will begin at 6 p.m., and staff will be on hand to present information and receive public input.

Those wishing to file written comments may send them to Cindy Butler, director of the West Virginia State Rail Authority, 120 Water Plan Drive, Moorefield, WV 26836 on or before Jan. 30, 2013.
