DirtBusters Janitorial Services honors Hudson

BARBOURSVILLE -- DirtBusters Janitorial Services is honoring Heidi Hudson as its employee of the month for the month of February. Hudson is operations manager and has been with DirtBusters for 21/2 years. She majored in Communications & Public Relations at Rio Grande University.

Hudson has six years of management experience. Her responsibilities include hiring, training and scheduling personnel. She also directs and maintains all operating standards for productivity and quality, exceeding company standards for efficiency and on-time performance.

Her efforts have produced superior building maintenance results. DirtBusters provides janitorial service to more than 175 buildings in Huntington Charleston and Ashland.

Rogers hired at Picasso Salon & Day Spa

BARBOURSVILLE -- Picasso Salon & Day Spa, 1112 Main St., Barboursville, has hired Linsey Rogers, a stylist and esthetician. Rogers has worked in the Atlanta salon Key Lime Pie. Marshall graduate joins Woodcraft Supply

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Marshall University graduate Matt Hall has joined Woodcraft Magazine in Parkersburg as a corporate advertising specialist.

Hall has joined Woodcraft's Internet team and will be responsible for Woodcraft's online advertising efforts. He will concentrate on advertising programs with Amazon.com and with other woodworking-oriented sites.

Hall is a native of Parkersburg and a graduate of Parkersburg High School. He has a bachelor of science degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a master of business administration from Marshall University.

St. Mary's hires Smith as new program manager

HUNTINGTON -- St. Mary's Medical Center has hired Valerie Smith, RN, MSN, CPHQ, FNAHQ, as the new program manager of hospitalist services. In this role, Smith manages daily operations of the hospitalist program to ensure efficiency.

Smith has 36 years of experience in the field, with her areas of expertise including medical staff services, credentialing, performance improvement, case management and patient safety.

She has served as a consultant and educator to multiple health care organizations in West Virginia, and as a nurse auditor in West Virginia and Virginia for United Healthcare.

Smith earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from West Virginia University in Morgantown. She is a certified professional in health care quality and has achieved fellowship status with the National Healthcare Quality Association.

Kitchen gets recertified by funeral service academy

Fred H. Kitchen of Milton has recently qualified for recertification of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner, by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. Kitchen also serves as ambassador of the academy for the state of West Virginia.

The certification is the funeral service's national, individual recognition. Goals of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice are to recognize those practitioners who have voluntarily entered into a program of personal and professional growth, to raise and improve the standards of funeral service, and to encourage practitioners to make continuing education a lifelong process in their own self-interest, the interest of the families they serve, and the community in which they serve.

Practitioners must complete a 180-hour program of continuing education activities and events, to earn the certification, and accumulate 20 hours per year to re-certify.

Kitchen is a West Virginia licensed funeral director, embalmer, and notes cremation and burial expert. He has written for funeral service and grief-related professional journals in the United States, United Kingdom and Russia. He also is a sales and business consultant with Batesville Casket Company in Batesville, Ind.

Kitchen lives with his wife, Amber, and two daughters, Annalise and Arabella.

Miller named Moses' Salesperson of the Month

Moses AutoMall of Huntington recognizes Katrina Miller as its Salesperson of the Month for outstanding sales and customer satisfaction achievements in the month of January. Miller led the Moses team in sales for the month of January and is an important part of our community help programs, according to a release. She lives in Barboursville and has been a member of the sales team since August 2004.

Four doctors join King's Daughters

ASHLAND -- Three new doctors have joined King's Daughters Medical Center.

Ophthalmologist Darrell Reisner, M.D., joins the Surgery Department at KDMC.

He is a 1995 medical school graduate of University of Connecticut, Farmington, Conn. He continued his medical education by completing an internship with the University of Connecticut (1996) and residency with Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. (1999). Bowden, Mullen and White chosen for Leadership West Virginia

CHARLESTON --Three local women are among the 46 leaders statewide who accepted invitations to participate in the 20th class of Leadership West Virginia. They include Cassey Bowden of United Way of the River Cities Inc.; Sara Mullen of the Nick Joe Rahall Appalachian Transportation Institute; and Tammy White of Farrell, Farrell & Farrell PLLC.

Candidates were selected from a list of nominations that was submitted in late 2009.

Leadership West Virginia (www.leadershipwv.org) is a statewide education and leadership development program affiliated with the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce. The eight-month program works with emerging leaders throughout West Virginia to enhance their knowledge of the state's challenges and its unique attributes and diversity. It intends to develop and motivate a cross-section of leaders who will use their talents and abilities to inspire others and to foster a new spirit of energy, enthusiasm and vitality throughout the state.

They travel throughout the state and focus on a variety of topics, including health care, economic development, tourism, law, energy, manufacturing, government, education and the arts.

Wilmink honored by Northwestern Mutual

BARBOURSVILLE -- Northwestern Mutual is honoring Thomas R. Wilmink, CLU, ChFC of The Dobbs Financial Group based in Barboursville with its 2010 Southern Region Top 10 Award.

Out of all financial representatives in the region, Wilmink ranked fourth overall. He lives in Huntington.

Norris honored by framers' association

Greg Norris, a certified picture framer (CPF) and owner of Huntington Hall of Frames LLC, has been recognized by the Professional Picture Framers' Association. Norris took home first place in the Print category as well as the Popular Choice and Judges' awards.

Working within guidelines established by the association, the Fine Art Council and Library of Congress, Norris created a bench-made wood frame for the watercolor print titled "Heart Rod Guitar," by artist Rod Morris. The piece was preservation mounted with museum hinges, floated in a deep mat embellished with a carved panel and hand painted inlay.

The Huntington native and Marshall University alum now advances to the association's International Framing Competition in Anaheim, Calif., this month.

Huntington Hall of Frames LLC, located in a historic home on 5th Avenue, specializes in protection and preservation of photos, collectibles and art, engraving, customized awards and plaques, and is a provider of certified appraisals and conservation services through Wiebold Studios of Cincinnati. Akers named nurse manager

HUNTINGTON -- Melanie Akers, MSN, RN, has been named nurse manager for the Pediatric and Pediatric Intensive Care units at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Akers is a graduate of Marshall University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1997 and her master of science in nursing administration in 2004.

Akers has a nursing background both in general pediatrics and in pediatric intensive care, along with leadership experience as a nursing educator at Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Marshall University School of Nursing.

Carter earns certification

HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Huntington Hospital Associate Director of Nursing Chris Carter, MSN, RN, NE-BC, recently earned certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Board Certified Nurse Executive.

Carter, a longtime Cabell Huntington Hospital employee, has served in nursing leadership for more than two years and currently oversees several hospital areas including adult critical care, the emergency department, pediatric intensive care and pediatrics.

To earn his board certification, Carter met strong professional development standards and has demonstrated excellence in leadership, nursing research, fiscal management, human resource management and nursing innovations.

Folio, Summers and Johnson join Huddleston Bolen

CHARLESTON -- Huddleston Bolen has hired Michael Folio, Scott Summers and Sarah Johnson for the firm's Charleston office.

Folio joins the firm as a partner. His practice is concentrated in health care law including: certificate of need, behavioral health, practice management, billing and licensure, medical malpractice defense, pharmacy liability and general civil litigation.
