ASHLAND -- Bellefonte Heart Care, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital's cardiology practice, will open in its new location on Wednesday, April 2, at 1180 Saint Christopher Drive, Suite 2, on the hospital campus.

Bellefonte Heart Care offers caring and complete heart services and specializes in the treatment of acute and coronary syndromes, acute myocardial infarctions, non-ST elevation myocardial infarctions, chronic chest pain, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia and congestive heart failure. Bellefonte Heart Care features the services of Dr. Michele Friday, the Ashland area's only female interventional cardiologist and nurse practitioner Shirley Stanley.

Huntington Creative Community recognized

HUNTINGTON -- Three local businesses working together were recognized for an outstanding collaboration by ST Media Group International. A sign and logo developed for Geer Brothers in Huntington was published in the international book "Design Gallery Six: The World's Best Signs," which was released in February.

The Geer Brothers logo was designed by Laura Gregory of Mountainside Media, a Huntington public relations and communications firm, and the sign was fabricated by Paris Signs, also in the Huntington area.

Action council appoints new agency nurse

HUNTINGTON -- Southwestern Community Action Council Inc. appoints Kathy Merritt, BSN, RN, as a homemaker agency nurse for its Medicaid Waiver Program called Title IXX Aged and Disabled Waiver Services.

Prior to joining SCAC, Merritt spent 11 years with various agencies where she was in similar positions. Merritt earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Marshall University and is a registered nurse. Merritt will report to Rebecca Chambers, program director, and joins a staff of Kathy Johnson, RN, and Rebecca Hughes, RN.

SCAC has been a Medicaid Case Management provider since 1995 and a Homemaker Agency provider since 2002. The Homemaker program is defined as a long-term care alternative that provides support services to enable individuals to remain in their home. Services include assistance with daily living activities and environmental tasks necessary to maintain a home.

Southwestern Community Action Council, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization offering programs and services that assist low-income residents of Cabell, Lincoln, Mason and Wayne counties.
