Ashland attracts PetSmart and Dick's Sporting Goods
ASHLAND -- Dick's Sporting Goods and PetSmart will locate in two of the three large spaces adjacent to Walmart, and another major retailer is expected to announce it will come to Melody Mountain, Mayor Chuck Charles said Friday.
Dick's Sporting Goods will locate in a 50,000-square-foot store to be built this year, said Bo Gunlock, vice president of asset management for RG Properties, developer of the project. The projects are scheduled to be finished by Sept. 30, and the stores are expected to be open prior to Christmas, Gunlock said Friday.
Site work on the project could start in about a week, Gunlock said. Construction on the buildings is expected to start in mid-March, he said.
"This is good news," Charles said. "2013 is starting off great. The momentum is with us. I'm looking for a banner year for Ashland."
Meanwhile, Shogun Hibachi Grill has signed a lease and will locate in an outlot in about 60 to 90 days. The restaurant will seek a city alcoholic beverage license, Gunlock said. The restaurant will locate at the former Five Guys restaurant, he said.
Shogun already has construction permits to renovate and remodel the location, Gunlock said.
Another major retailer is close to announcing plans to locate in a 55,000-square-foot store adjacent to O'Charley's Restaurant at 461 Riverhill Drive, Gunlock said. The announcement on that store could come by next week, he said.
The developer also is planning to build about 3,200 feet for smaller shops to locate along Riverhill Drive, Gunlock said.
"We don't have commitments yet on those," he said.
Dick's also will locate along Riverhill Drive adjacent to Walmart, he said.
PetSmart will locate in a 12,500-square-foot store.
