Southern Ohio center offers workshop on EDGE program

OHIO EDGE CERTIFICATION: The Southern Ohio Procurement Outreach Center will present a free workshop on Ohio's EDGE Program. This workshop is for any small business owner who wants to learn about the purpose and benefits of the EDGE certification in state contracting. Topics include eligibility standards, the application process, maximizing your EDGE certification and identifying local agencies and prime contractors to market your business.

It will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Ohio University-Chillicothe Campus, 101 University Drive. It will be in Room 215 of the Shoemaker Center.

CPT CODING: Mountwest Community and Technical College has a course in APT coding coming up. The course, which costs $425, will begin Tuesday, March 26, and run through May 14. It is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 200 of Cabell Hall.

Procedural medical coding determines the correct numerical value placed on the procedures in a medical office, such as office visits, injections and more. All guidelines for each organ system are covered. Participants should know basic medical terminology and basic anatomy. A participant may have gained knowledge of these by working as a medical receptionist or medical assistant. Course materials are provided. PROFESSIONAL CODING: Mountwest Community and Technical College also has a course in professional coding coming up in May. The course costs $1,850 and runs Tuesday, May 21, through Sept. 17. It will be from 5 to 9 p.m. in Room 200 of Cabell Hall. This course helps the student prepare for the National CPC Certification exam. Course materials are provided. MICROSOFT ACCESS: Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College will offer a series of Microsoft Access workshops designed for participants with little or no experience with computers or who want to increase their computer proficiency. Instruction will be provided by a Microsoft Office Master Instructor.

A workshop titled Microsoft Access 2010-Basic will be Friday, March 8. Another titled Microsoft Access 2010 Intermediate will be Friday, April 5.

A third titled Microsoft Access 2010-Advanced will be Friday, May 3.

Workshops will be at the Kanawha Valley Community & Technical College Workforce and Economic Development site in the Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center at 1701 Fifth Ave., Suite 142, Charleston. Each workshop is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $95 for each six-hour, hands-on workshop and includes a student textbook and CD with practice activities.

LEAN SIX SIGMA GREEN BELT: Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College is offering this manufacturing training with a three-month blended learning program, featuring the latest online teaching technologies to increase value and accessibility.

Multimedia e-learning modules combined with six virtual classroom sessions, facilitated by a master champion, present all of the materials needed to learn the DMAIC process. This affords the flexibility of learning anywhere, 24-7, and attending the classroom sessions "from your desk," thus reducing travel costs and downtime from your office. The multimedia e-learning modules and the six virtual classroom sessions will take place from Tuesday, March 12, to June 18. A Capstone Simulation project class will bring all class participants together on campus to apply the tools in an assigned project on June 25-27.
