Figgatt named RCBI Employee of the Month

HUNTINGTON -- Christopher H. Figgatt of Hurricane has been selected as Employee of the Month for February at the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing.

Figgatt, who joined the RCBI staff two years ago, is a production engineer at the RCBI Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center in South Charleston. Before that he worked from 2005 to 2007 in maintenance and engineering at Toyota Motor Manufacturing at Buffalo, W.Va. From 1999 to 2002 he was an assistant automotive technology instructor at Garnet Career Center in Charleston and from 2002 to 2004 was a diagnostic equipment consultant for Snap-on Tools, Inc. in Charleston.

A Charleston native, Figgatt earned a B.A. degree in business administration in 1998 from West Virginia State University, a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering technology in 2007 from West Virginia University Institute of Technology and is working toward a master's degree in safety from Marshall University Graduate College. He recently was awarded Engineer Intern certification from the West Virginia Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and is pursuing Professional Engineer certification.

Figgatt and his wife, Aimee, are the parents of a son, Matthew. They have started a small farm at their home in Teays Valley.

Rubrecht joins MU's brownfield advsory team

CHARLESTON -- Jackson Kelly PLLC attorney Gale Rubrecht was recently invited to become a member of the advisory team to the West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center at Marshall University.

Since its formation, the center has provided services to the municipalities, communities and regional economic development entities that make up southern West Virginia.

The group is located at Marshall University's Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences.

Generally speaking, a brownfield site is land previously used for industrial purposes or certain commercial uses that may be contaminated by a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant, but has the potential to be reused once it is cleaned up.

Rubrecht has more than 30 years of experience in environmental law, appellate advocacy and litigation. Her practice at Jackson Kelly concentrates significantly on solid and hazardous waste and brownfields issues. She has represented clients on remediation and redevelopment projects under the West Virginia voluntary cleanup program and counseled clients concerning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's brownfields program, including prospective purchasers, institutional controls, windfall liens, site and risk assessments, grants and revolving loan funds.

Walden represents OLBH at breast cancer forum

Johnda Walden represented Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital last month at the 2010 Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Forum in San Francisco. Walden attended after being awarded a scholarship from the foundation.

This year's forum focused on programs that enable women to access early detection services and breast cancer treatment. Walden serves as Bellefonte's Mobile Mammography Services coordinator and is responsible for oversight and operations of the hospital's Mobile Health Center, a mobile coach designed to provide women access to mammography screenings. Walden has been employed at the hospital for nine years.

She was one of more than 275 community health educators, patient navigators, nurses and physicians from all 50 states that attended the forum. Collectively, the participants are part of a network of Avon Foundation-funded programs that educate more than 1,000,000 people each year on breast health care, link 250,000 women to mammography screening and navigate thousands of breast cancer patients through treatment. OLBH has received Avon Foundation for Women funding for six years to provide mammography services to rural, underserved women in the FIVCO area.

Cremeans named Moses Salesperson of the Month

HUNTINGTON -- Moses AutoMall of Huntington presented its "Salesperson of the Month Award" to Weston Cremeans for outstanding sales and customer satisfaction achievements in the month of February. Weston lead the Moses team with sales in February and scored above average on Customer Satisfaction ratings from Nissan.

Cremeans lives in Salt Rock with his wife, Becky, and children, Elijah and Katelyn, and juggles his work at Moses with pastoring at Friendly United Baptist Church. He has been a member of the Moses sales team for seven years and is a member of the Moses Public Relations Committee that organizes community programs.

Marsteller joins team at Valley Health center

HUNTINGTON -- Amy Albrecht Marsteller, MD, has joined the Valley Health center in Guyandotte.

Serving patients at the Valley Health -- Carl Johnson health center, Marsteller will provide family medicine, emphasizing care to women and children. Marsteller brings nearly four years of experience to the role as a practicing physician and as an associate professor at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine.

Marsteller completed residency in family medicine at Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine after graduating medical school at Wright State University School of Medicine. She working alongside family practitioner, Zachary Hansen, MD, and OB/GYN, Brian Bower, MD, and is now accepting new patients.

Thornburgh named chair emeritus of health board

HUNTINGTON -- Jack Thornburgh has been named chair emeritus of the Valley Health board of directors.

Thornburgh received the appointment at Valley Heath's recent annual board of directors meeting.

"Throughout his tenure on our board, Jack has continuously reinforced Valley Health's mission of providing quality health care to every segment of the population," Valley Health Chief Executive Officer Steve Shattls said in a press release.

Thornburgh first became involved with Valley Health in the late 1970s when he helped bring Guyandotte Medical Services, as its president, under Valley Health's umbrella in a practice that is today known as Valley Health - Carl Johnson.

"I feel extremely honored to receive this recognition and am proud to be a part of an organization that provides such top-notch care to so many in our region," Thornburgh said in a press release.

Thornburgh previously served as city of Huntington's deputy mayor and director of finance and administration, a director for the Huntington Municipal Development Authority, a director for the Urban Renewal Authority, chairman of the Unsafe Building Commission and chairman of the Huntington Municipal Parking Board.
