Business to specialize in women's clothing, home decor consignment
HURRICANE, W.Va. -- Second Time Around Inc., located at 207 Midland Trail next to Farley's Hotdogs, is preparing for clearance of their men's and children's clothing in July in order to make room for more women's fashions and home goods.
This is Karen Young's first time at business ownership, and she said she never realized she would enjoy it so much. Motivated by the desire to clean out her own closet, Young began researching the trends in the area in regards to consignment and thought that Hurricane would be a great place to open a consignment store.
"I've always wanted my own business, and I enjoy people, so I cleaned out my closets and my mother's closets, and it's snowballed from there," she said.
Since opening in January, Young has carried a variety of apparel and home décor items but says time has taught her what customers are most interested in, and she's trying to fill that need by revamping her shop.
Except for formal and bridal wear, Young says she doesn't usually carry anything that costs more than $30, with no jeans or blouses over $10. Young prides herself on being community focused and says if she doesn't have the item a customer is looking for, she knows someone else who might and she'll gladly refer a customer to other stores when needed.
"I think there's enough business for everyone," she said.
Young says many people are just starting to find out how valuable consignment shopping can be.
"You can get quality clothes at a good price. I'll put my clothes up against some of the local retail stores any day."
Starting in July, Second Time Around will be open six days a week with hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Six-month layaway is available for $5 down. The store accepts cash, debit, Mastercard, Visa and Discover. Due to a large inventory, the store is not accepting new consignment items at this time.
