VA Medical Center honors two employees

HUNTINGTON -- Carla Haynie, administrative officer in Pharmacy Service, was named as Employee of the Year at the VA Medical Center in Huntington. Haynie was recognized for her dedication to customer service, her compassion and positive attitude and her willingness to go the extra mile. Haynie retired from the medical center on Sept. 25, the day of the award presentation, after 33 years of service. She and her family reside in Kenova.

Sara C. Allman, M.D., of Huntington, has been named as the recipient of the Secretary's (of Veterans Affairs) Hands and Heart award. As the lead physician for the Primary Care Blue Team, Allman was recognized for her professional expertise and delivery of emotional support, help and guidance to patients above and beyond the call of duty. Allman began her VA career in 2000 at the medical center. She is a graduate of West Virginia University School of Medicine, and completed a residency in internal medicine at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

KDMC receives no. 5 national ranking

ASHLAND -- Modern Healthcare magazine, a health care journal, has placed King's Daughters Medical Center (KDMC) no. 5 on the national list of the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare.

Realtor received relocation certification

BrickStreet elects new Board of Directors

CHARLESTON -- BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company policyholders elected a new Board of Directors, to begin oversight of the workers' compensation carrier in January.

The new board includes four members of the current Board of Directors. They are joined by W. Marston "Marty" Becker, chairman and chief executive officer of Max Capital Group and a co-founder of West Virginia Media Holdings.

BrickStreet officials announced election results on Oct. 27 during the company's annual policyholder meeting at the Charleston Civic Center. Policyholders voted on proposed board members either by proxy or in person.

Becker will serve a three-year term in a board seat that, according to BrickStreet's bylaws, must be occupied by someone with experience as an officer or employee of a company in the insurance industry.

He joins current board members Thomas V. Flaherty, an attorney with the firm of Flaherty, Sensabaugh and Bonasso PLLC; David L. Rader, president and chief executive officer of West Virginia Mutual Insurance Co.; Stephen G. Roberts, president of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce; and attorney Steven F. White of Steven F. White PLLC.

The current chairman of BrickStreet's Board of Directors, H. Skip Tarasuk Jr. of Davis and Tarasuk Insurance in Fairmont, chose not to seek re-election.

Like Becker, Rader will serve a three-year term. Flaherty, Roberts and White will serve four-year terms. Gregory A. Burton, president and CEO, and Phillip A. Lynch, senior vice president, also serve on the board by virtue of their positions at BrickStreet.

Charles Ryan launches DesignSuite/CRA

Employee attends leadership conference

HUNTINGTON -- Marsha Mattingly of Beltone Hearing Aid Center, attended the Chapter Leadership Conference at the International Hearing Society's 57th annual Convention and Exposition on Sept. 24 to 29 in Savannah, Ga.

"IHS Chapter Leaders from around the world gathered to discuss many diverse topics pertinent to effective leadership on the local level. Leaders were given information and tools to take home to their groups to become a stronger, more viable group," Mattingly said in a press release.

Mattingly owns the Ttri-State area Beltone Hearing Aid Centers, a family owned company that has been serving the community for the past 43 years.

The International Hearing Society is the professional association for hearing instrument specialists. IHS supports programs of education, research and licensing for individuals engaged in the field of hearing instrument sciences.

Valley Health announces new OB/GYN physician

HUNTINGTON -- Valley Health welcomes Dr. Aaron Scaife, the most recent addition to the OB/GYN team. Scaife is an obstetrician and gynecologist who lives in the Ironton area.

Scaife graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia University, before beginning medical school at Marshall University School of Medicine in 1999. Another four years of OB/GYN residency training were also completed at Marshall.
