Valley Health -- Huntington extends after hours care
HUNTINGTON -- Valley Health announces new, extended operating hours for the After Hours Care service it provides community members at its Huntington health center.
Patients with minor illnesses or injuries can now visit Valley Health -- Huntington's After Hours Care without an appointment, from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday or from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Patients of all ages can receive treatment for conditions such as flu, colds, respiratory infection and injuries in need of sutures at After Hours Care. Individuals are seen on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended that patients are present 45 minutes before doors close each evening.
In addition to After Hours Care, Valley Health -- Huntington provides family medicine, pediatric care, internal medicine, OB/GYN and X-ray service from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Professor awarded distinguished faculty service
HUNTINGTON -- Carolyn B. Hunter Distinguished Faculty Service Award was presented to Dr. Ramchandra Akkihal, professor of finance and economics in the College of Business.
Akkihal, a native of India, has been with Marshall since 1968 as a professor and researcher. He was director for the MBA program for 13 years, and currently serves as director of the Bhavan (India) MBA program for the Lewis College of Business (LCOB), the first Marshall degree offered overseas. He is chair of the governing board and director of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Dharwad (India). In 2000 he received the LCOB Distinguished Service Award; in 2001, the Graduate Advisor of the Year award; in 2004, the Marshall University Distinguished Service Award; and in 2004-2005, the LCOB Graduate Faculty of the Year Award. He also helped establish Marshall overseas international programs in England and Spain.
Akkihal is founding president of the Tri-State India Association which provides financial support for higher education library resources and scholarships at Marshall. He also has initiated a number of events on campus that attracted hundreds of people from campus and the community to experience the culture of India, including internationally known Indian artists and musicians.
Burner named new market president
HUNTINGTON -- Larry Jones, president of Community Trust Bank's Northeast Region, announces that Allen Burner is the new market president of the Advantage Valley Region at Community Trust Bank.
Burner will be responsible for the acquisition, retention and expansion of new and existing client relationships by providing financing solutions, both lending and deposit services, to both individuals and businesses in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.
Burner has more than 30 years of banking experience with positions held as CEO and chief lending officer, division president and director of lending and vice president of commercial lending.
A native of Huntington, he is a graduate of Marshall University with a major in finance. Burner is a board member of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Huntington Area Development Council (HADCO) and a member of the executive committee with Advantage Valley. He is a former board member of United Way and The Jesse Stuart Foundation.
