Six-week training workshop offered for business owners

BUSINESS START-UP: Unlimited Future Inc. will conduct a six-week training workshop for business owners and prospective business owners, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 29. It will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through March 5.

The course will cover information prospective business owners need to know, such as building a business concept, legal and financial aspects, management and leadership. The text for the course is filled with checklists, important questions to ask, worksheets, Internet resource guides and more.

One focus of the course is to help participants understand how to acquire funding so that they can get their business started the right way. Qualified students who complete this course and have a written business plan will be eligible to apply for a West Virginia State Micro-loan for amounts between $5,000 and $15,000 to help with start-up expenses.

Tuition for the course is based on income. Those in the lowest income levels may attend the entire six-week course at no charge.

ONOW: The Cabell County Career Technology Center is offering the ONOW (Orientation to Nontraditional Careers for Women) course. It's a free course that offers training in nontraditional careers, industrial safety, construction math, blueprint reading, and hand and power tool usage in a friendly atmosphere for women. Classes are noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and begin Tuesday, Jan. 22. To learn more, call 304-528-5106, ext. 225.

MEDICAL OFFICE SKILLS: Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA will begin its new 20-week course in Medical Office Skills Training on Monday, Jan. 28. Class times are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Classes will be located at 1005 Virginia Ave., Huntington. The MOST course offers up to 17 hours of college credit from Mountwest Community and Technical College. Financial aid for this course is available. For more information, call 304-523-7461.

MICROSOFT EXCEL: A six-week course in Microsoft Excel 2010 will begin Monday, Jan. 28. Classes will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays. The course aims to educate students in Excel 2010 skills such as basics of developing spreadsheets, formula usage and sheet attachments. To enroll or for more information, call 304-523-7461.
