Pottery Place to open second store in Ashland

Nov. 17, 2011 @ 12:00 AM

The Pottery Place is going to have a second location, this one in Russell Centre, 394 Diederich Blvd., Ashland.

It's planning to open on Black Friday, Nov. 25, owner Laya Hutchison said.

The studio, which also has a location in Huntington's Pullman Square, offers a variety of ceramic items -- plates, mugs, piggy banks, picture frames, holiday decorations and much more -- that can be painted by customers. Once painting is complete, the items are fired in a kiln and returned in about a week to 10 days. The studio hosts parties for all occasions, as well as summer camps for kids and classes for adults.

"Thanks to the blessing of continued support in our Huntington studio, I decided to expand into the Kentucky market," Hutchison said. "Customers who have already visited our Huntington studio will enjoy all the same amenities, as we have maintained our brand in our new location.

"I think that what we do is fun, affordable entertainment for people of all ages and all talent levels, and wanted to offer this experience to a wider range of customers."

The new Pottery Place will host grand opening celebration about two weeks after its opening, but a firm date is yet to be established. It will feature a free tile-painting opportunity, open to the public.

Store hours will be the same as Huntington, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
