Jean Tarbett Hardiman: Full-service salon now open on 5th Street in Huntington

A new salon has opened at 909 5th St. West in Huntington.

Salon 909 is owned by Shannon Sydenstricker, who has 20 years in the beauty business. Located in a newly renovated building, the salon is full-service, offering services for hair, nails, full-body waxing and massage.

Salon 909 is still hiring and can be reached at 304-781-0200.

ORANGE LEAF: A grand opening took place Monday at the new Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt at the Ashland Town Center Mall. The frozen yogurt shop offers a variety of flavors in a build-your-own-sundae format. Its entrance is between Panera Bread and Belk.

MIAPPA: Made in Appalachia will host the grand opening and reception at the MiAppa Artisan Place, located in the Frederick Hotel building, 948 4th Ave. The reception will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. The Made in Appalachia gallery is still located across from the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center at 926 4th Ave.

EMERGENCY AMBULANCE: Bill Jackson, a founding member of Emergency Ambulance in Ashland, will be the grand marshal for the 2012 Christmas Parade in Ashland, preceding the opening of the city's popular Winter Wonderland of Lights. This year's parade will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Jackson recently retired from Emergency Ambulance after three decades of service. The company began in 1978.

BOB EVANS: The late Robert Lewis "Bob" Evans, founder of Bob Evans Farms Inc., was inducted this month into the National 4-H Hall of Fame in recognition of his lifetime achievements and contributions to the 4-H organization.

A lifelong 4-H member and supporter, Evans had a passion for conservation, education, wildlife preservation and philanthropy and gave generously of his time, talents and money to support 4-H as well as Future Farmers of America and The Ohio State University's College of Agriculture program.

SOUTHERN STATES: Linda Forbush recently celebrated 15 years of service as sales clerk at Southern States Huntington Cooperative. Store Manager Doug Horne presented Forbush with a certificate for her accomplishment.
