Steel company receives industry certification

HUNTINGTON -- Huntington Steel and Supply Company, a regional steel fabricator and service center has received the coveted American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Quality Certification.

An article on AISC's Web site describes the process. "AISC Certification sets a standard for the steel industry. Companies that are AISC Certified have been through a rigorous initial evaluation and are subject to yearly reviews. Our independent auditing company, Quality Management Company, LLC, confirms that companies have the personnel, knowledge, organization, equipment, experience, capability, procedures and commitment to produce the required quality of work for a given category, whether they are a fabricating plant, erector or metal building company."

One of only three companies in West Virginia with the "Standard for Steel Building Structures" certification, Huntington Steel provides fabricated structural steel for their customers located in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.

Paramount Arts Center honored with VIP award

ASHLAND -- Tyson Compton, marketing director for the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, was honored with the VIP Award from U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers in Somerset, Ky. Compton was recognized for his use of interpretive grant funding on a project meant to boost tourism for the arts center as well as along the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Scenic Byway. Compton secured the $30,000 grant through TOUR Southern & Eastern Kentucky, based in Somerset.

TOUR SEKY is an initiative of Rogers. The organization's mission is to promote, develop and expand the existing and potential tourism industry throughout southern and eastern Kentucky in an effort to contribute to the economic and cultural growth of the region.

AMA physician member honored for 50-year anniversary

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Patrio Tismo, M.D., a general surgeon and general practitioner from Ironton is being honored by the American Medical Association (AMA) for his 50-year anniversary of graduation from medical school.

Tismo graduated from Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines. He has been an AMA member for 28 years. This year, the AMA will recognize almost, 2,000 physician members of the AMA's Senior Physicians Group which includes 60,000 physicians who are 65 years and beyond. It is the largest organization of senior physicians in the country.
