BB&T employee earns AWMA designation

HUNTINGTON -- Jason Davis, a private financial advisor in BB&T's Private Financial Services Group, has earned the Accredited Wealth Management Advisor (AWMA) professional designation from The College for Financial Planning.

Davis, who joined BB&T in 2006, is based at 10 W. 6th Ave. The Houston, Texas, native earned his bachelor's degree in management from Marshall University and is a certified financial planner, a chartered financial consultant and a chartered retirement planning counselor.

Davis was also named one of America's top financial planners in 2008. He resides in Ashland with his wife and four sons.

The College for Financial Planning awards the AWMA designation to students who complete the program, pass the final examination and sign a code of ethics commitment and declaration form. Advisors who receive the AWMA designation gain advanced, yet practical, knowledge about critical aspects of the financial services industry, such as asset management, allocation, and selection; investment performance and strategies; and taxation of investment products.

Accounting firm associate awarded CPA certificate

HUNTINGTON -- The Partners of Somerville & Company, P.L.L.C., Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, announces that Mendy A. Aluise, associate with the firm, has been awarded the Certified Public Accountant certificate.

Having passed the Uniform CPA exam for certification and met the experience requirements for licensure, Aluise has been awarded her CPA certificate. She is a native and resident of Huntington and joined the firm as an associate after graduating magna cum laude from the Lewis College of Business at Marshall University in December 2004. She received her bachelor of business administration degree with a major in accounting and a minor in economics and participated in the Somerville Accounting Internship Program for two years prior to joining. At the firm, Aluise concentrates her efforts by providing accounting, auditing and tax-related services to a wide range of clients.

Paramount Arts Center announces new director

ASHLAND -- Melanie Perron Sweeney joins the staff of The Paramount Arts Center in Ashland as the director of education and outreach. She holds a bachelor of science degree in Theatre and Dance from Appalachian State University. She has had various positions in theaters and arts agencies across North Carolina. Her most recent position was as artistic director for the Andy Griffith Playhouse in Mount Airy, N.C. Sweeney has also worked as the education director for the Community Theatre of Greensboro and as the executive director for the Davie County Arts Council in Mocksville, N.C.

In addition to her work with arts agencies, she has taught theater, dance and music in several public schools across North Carolina. Sweeney is active in working with agencies to create arts programming in non-traditional settings, directing and choreographing for theatrical productions and using performing arts in historical re-enactments. She is the North Carolina State co-chairwoman for the Silver Arts program of the North Carolina Senior Games. Through her work with many of these programs, she presents training and workshops on acting, directing and implementing arts programming.

Psychology firm announces new staff and promotions

CHARLESTON -- Dr. David A. Clayman announces the promotion of Jennifer Onks to senior supervised psychologist and the addition of Sarah Ginn as a psychometrician to the Clayman & Associates team.

Onks is a 2005 graduate of Marshall University where she obtained her master's degree in clinical psychology. She joined Clayman & Associates in 2002 and quickly moved up to become a senior psychometrician. Onks is in her third year of supervision. She provides clinical support services to Clayman, focusing on forensic evaluations, correctional risk assessment and oversight of psychological testing services. Onks is married and has two sons.

Ginn has over six years of experience in psychological testing and behavioral assessments. She received her bachelor's degree in 1997 from Marshall University and her master's degree in 2000 from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. Ginn joined the Clayman & Associates team this past November as a psychometrician. She lives in St. Albans with her four-year old daughter.

Local travel service appoints new supervisor

CHARLESTON -- Effective Jan. 2, Elizabeth Kilver-Goodrich has been appointed as operations and client relation's supervisor of National Travel Service/American Express's Office located at the Huntington Mall. Kilver-Goodrich joins the management team reporting directly to Ann Hoskins, vice president of National Travel Service/American Express operations with its headquarters in Charleston.

Kilver-Goodrich is a graduate of Marshall University majoring in International Affairs joining National Travel in June 2007. She was a John Marshall Scholar graduating summa cum laude. Her language skills include Spanish and Japanese.
