Air Force secretary to speak at energy, resource symposium

October 29, 2007 @ 11:48 PM

HUNTINGTON -- The U.S. Air Force assistant deputy secretary will be the key speaker for the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce's third annual Energy and Natural Resource Symposium being held next week.

Kevin Billings will be on hand to discuss strategies that the Air Force uses to utilize resources at the seminar held by Natural Resource Partners at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

The speaker was chosen after members of the chamber learned that the Air Force was working on an initiative to use a liquid form of coal for some aircraft, and Billings has made several presentations throughout the country on the topic.

The symposium, which is being held in the patio room of Pullman Plaza Hotel, will offer insight on the importance of utilizing coal for other resources. Sector updates dealing with electrical, gasoline, energy and natural resources are also planned.

"People who typically attend are in an energy industry or use a lot, or work with it in some way," said Mark Bugher, president and CEO of Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce.

This annual event was started three years ago and has featured speakers such as Mark Hart, president and CEO of West Hawk Development in Canada, along with Guy Caruso, administrator for Energy Information Administration.

Everyone is welcomed to attend the symposium, but it is designed for people that specialize in areas dealing with the use of energy.

"It is a public issue," Bugher said. "Certainly an important one."
