HUNTINGTON -- The Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center in Cross Lanes is looking to hire some new workers, and it hosted a job fair Tuesday at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in its search.

The center, which will be newly named the Mardis Gras Racetrack and Gaming Center, needs table game dealers, who require training and certification, and it needs full-time and part-time workers in food and beverage, security, surveillance, the money room (where money is counted) and housekeeping.

It has another job fair planned for Thursday at Raleigh Armory in Beckley.

The table game dealers need to get training at West Virginia State and Community College. Poker dealers are needed to work the new poker room, which begins in late July or early August, and dealers to work in roulette, craps and black jack will be needed by late August or early September. Those training sessions last several weeks and cost anywhere from $490 to $770.

Ron LaDuca, director of table games and poker for the gaming center, said the center is looking for "friendly, outgoing, motivated people."

Table game dealers get to keep their own tips, he said. "It's a pretty good paying job," he said.
