IECE Program at ACTC offers options for those who want to work with kids

January 04, 2009 @ 10:15 PM

IECE PROGRAM: Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE) appeals to many Ashland Community and Technical College students because of the variety of options it offers to people who want to work with children.

Certificates are an option for people who want a short-term program that will give them an immediate edge in the job market. IECE offers six certificates: Kentucky Child Care Provider, Child Care Assistant, Early Childhood Administrator, School Age Child Care, Kentucky Early Childhood Certificate and IECE Technical.

IECE combines child development theory with practice in working with young children. Classes include developmental ages and stages, health and safety, curriculum planning, assessment and family involvement. Students observe childcare practice in a variety of facilities, and all degree students take one semester of student teaching.

For details on IECE courses and options, contact Mary Lou Forman by e-mail at marylou.forman@kctcs.edu. Spring semester begins Monday, Jan. 12, and new students should apply now.

Offices will open and Spring Registration will begin Monday, Jan. 5.
