Oct. 16, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

MORGANTOWN — A record 235 entries have been submitted from West Virginia's 11 institutions of higher education for the annual Collegiate Business Plan Competition.

The entries far exceed the number submitted last year -- 141. There's a new category this year. It is for STEM-related business ideas in areas such as engineering, technology, energy and health.

A total of three grand prizes each totaling $10,000 is being offered in each category. The other categories include hospitality and tourism and lifestyle and innovation.

Besides the grand prize, another prize package of legal and accounting services valued at $4,000 is up for grabs in each category.

The BrickStreet Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics sponsor the competition.
