Tri-State Airport gets $258,394 for upgrades
CEREDO -- Tri-State Airport will receive $258,394 in Federal Aviation Administration funds, U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Robert C. Byrd and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall announced Thursday.
The funds will allow the airport to move forward with terminal improvements, including restroom renovations and expanding the baggage claim area, according to a release from Rockefeller's office.
"Grants like this are vital to maintaining West Virginia's air service," Rockefeller, chairman of the Senate Aviation Subcommittee, said in a release. "Modern air terminals, radar systems and better runways are the foundation for keeping planes, passengers and commerce flowing safely and efficiently."
The airport's grant was awarded through the Air Improvement Program, which provides significant funding to local airports, helping them modernize the air traffic control system and expand airport runways and other facilities.
Tri-State was one of six state airports receiving grants.
Yeager Airport in Charleston will receive the largest grant, $644,811, to extend a runway. The smallest grant, $38,760, went to Upshur County Regional Airport to build two hangars.
Other grants included $258,394 awarded to Greenbrier Valley Airport in Lewisburg for terminal improvements; $230,573 for construction of a runway, taxiway and apron at Mingo County Airport and $136,446 to remove an obstruction at Marshall County Airport.
