Huntington to get first luxury apartments
HUNTINGTON -- Seneca Ridge Townhomes and Construction Advantage Inc. have partnered up to build one of Huntington's first luxury apartment communities.
"We want to build apartments that will be more of a place to live," said Robert A. Bowen, owner of Construction Advantage.
The Seneca Ridge Townhomes community will consist of 31 buildings, each with four units. Each unit will have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living/dining room, kitchen, basement and the possibility of adding a garage.
Bowen explained that they are trying to find a niche of people who are looking for a more upscale apartment that feels more like a home instead of a temporary rental property. Bowen said they also aim to attract people who are tired of living in apartments in the city.
The location of the Seneca Ridge Townhomes will be about two miles off of Norway Avenue. The view all around the homes will be the rolling West Virginia mountains and the quiet tall trees.
While the construction will begin with four buildings and 16 units, Bowen hopes that as the apartments are rented, they will quickly finish the other units. He hopes that the first of the units will be open and ready to rent by spring 2009 and that all the units will be finished within two years. A down-the-road goal is to offer the units as condominiums.
Bowen explained that they are several features that will make these apartments different from anything built before. First, the setting is clearly different from mainstream apartments. Also, Huntington does not sport many apartment communities such as Seneca. The apartments also offer storage, instead of being cramped quarters with no place to set aside belongings.
Seneca Ridge Townhomes will only be a few miles from Huntington High School, Beverly Hills Middle School, Geneva Kent Elementary, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary's Medical Center.
Bowen expects families to rent an apartment for two or three years while they're looking for a more permanent home. He also explained that people often come into Huntington from another state and are not ready to buy a house.
"Many people come into Huntington are not ready to commit to Huntington," Bowen said.
The apartments will offer five different models, including an ADA-approved model that is handicap accessible. The monthly rent will fluctuate between $975 and $1,395.
