Program to stimulate cut-flower production
CHARLESTON -- A grant awarded to the Great Kanawha Resource Conservation & Development Council is open to anyone that has an interest in producing cut flowers for florists, wholesalers, chefs or other potential markets in the area.
The grant was made possible through the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. Participants must commit to a five-year program to increase production of fresh cut flowers in Southwestern West Virginia, according to a news release. The following counties will be given first priority for the program: Boone, Clay, Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, Putnam and Wayne.
WVSU will work with successful applicants in selecting the site and in education on the everyday operation of the plots. The applicant will be required to supply all necessary work to make the project a success, miscellaneous equipment and land.
