Smoot named Employee of the Month at RCBI
HUNTINGTON -- Rick C. Smoot has been selected as Employee of the Month for July at the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing.
Smoot is an instructor in the RCBI Machinist Technology Program at its Huntington Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.
A 1977 graduate of Chesapeake (Ohio) High School, Smoot attended Hocking Community College. He is a graduate of RCBI's Machinist Technology Program, where he earned eight certifications from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills, and Marshall (now Mountwest) Community & Technical College, where he earned an associate degree in Applied Science.
He joined RCBI in 2008, coming from McCorkle Machine and Engineering, Huntington, where he had worked as a CNC (computer-numerical-controlled) machinist and leadman since 1999. He began his career as a machinist and leadman at Southern Ohio Machine and Repair, Chesapeake, from 1978 to 1987, when he joined D&E Industries, Huntington, where he was a programmer/leadman, CNC operator and first-class machinist. He then served as a CNC technician at Richwood Industries, Huntington, in 1998 and 1999.
Smoot lives in Chesapeake with his wife Linda, three daughters and a stepson.
Massey, Jones take on new roles at Bellefonte
RUSSELL, Ky. -- Lisa Massey, R.N., has assumed the role of clinical director of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital's Palliative Care Department, and Kim Jones, R.N., has accepted the position of manager for the department.
In her new role, Massey is responsible for the hospital's palliative care services while Jones will perform the services. Palliative care includes pain and symptom control, educational and emotional support, and support for the families of patients with life-limiting illnesses. The goal of Bellefonte's Palliative Care Department is to help patients understand their illnesses, recognize their strengths, maintain dignity and live their remaining time comfortably.
Massey has been employed at the hospital for 28 years in a variety of occupations including her current role as director of Service Excellence, a position she will continue in addition to her new palliative care duties. She earned her nursing degree from Marshall University in Huntington. Massey is a resident of Ironton.
Jones has been an OLBH employee for seven years, having previously served as a nurse in the hospital's float pool. She earned her nursing degree from Ashland Community and Technical College. Jones is a resident of Kitts Hill, Ohio.

Schelkun hired as WSAZ weekend anchor
Stephanie Schelkun has joined the WSAZ news team as weekend anchor. Schelkun is anchoring the WSAZ NewsChannel 3 weekend 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts as well as the weekend myZtv 10 p.m. newscast. Along with anchoring, Schelkun will also report three days a week.
She has spent the past two years as the morning anchor at the CBS affiliate WSEE in Erie, PA. She also was the business reporter/anchor for "One Caribbean Weather," interned at NBC 10 in Philadelphia in the Investigative Unit and worked at Entertainment Tonight in New York City.
A longtime resident of Bucks County, Penn., just outside of Philadelphia, Schelkun is a graduate of Penn State University with degrees in broadcast journalism and business.
Endocrinologist Santhanam joins KDMC
ASHLAND, Ky. -- Endocrinologist Prasanna Santhanam, M.D., has joined the medical staff at King's Daughters Medical Center.
Santhanam is a medical school graduate of BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad, India (2001). He continued his medical education by completing an internship (2006), residency (2008) and fellowship (2010) at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University.

Francisco named treasurer of national association
HUNTINGTON -- Jill I. Francisco, ACP, a paralegal at Huddleston Bolen LLP in Huntington, has been elected treasurer of the National Association of Legal Assistants/Paralegals, during the association's 35th annual meeting July 16 Jacksonville, Fla. She will serve on the NALA board of directors during the 2010-11 operational year.
She was charter president of the Legal Assistants/Paralegals of Southern West Virginia, was a member of NALA's Professional Development Committee 2003-2006, served as NALA's Affiliated Association Director 2008-2010, and Affiliated Associations Secretary 2006-2007. She currently serves on the advisory board for Mountwest Community and Technical College Legal Assistant Program, the Legal Assistant Committee of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, and as secretary on the Executive Committee of the Marshall University Alumni Association. She obtained her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Marshall University in 1994.

Kilgore joins Cabell Huntington staff
HUNTINGTON -- April Kilgore, MD, has joined the Cabell Huntington Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine as an infectious disease specialist for children.
Kilgore is a Huntington native and she completed both her medical degree and pediatric residency at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. She completed her fellowship training in infectious disease in children at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
