USDA says W.Va. trout sales rose in 2009

CHARLESTON -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the value of West Virginia's commercial trout sales nearly doubled last year.

USDA figures released Tuesday put the value of the 2009 crop at $1.6 million. That's up from $777,000 in 2008.

The agency says the state's trout growers sold fish 12 inches and longer for an average of $1.77 a pound, up 5 cents a pound from the year before. Prices for smaller fish weren't released.

USDA figures show West Virginia fared better than the country as a whole: fish sales by trout growers dipped 4 percent to $76.9 million nationally.

DMV seeks to improve services for truckers

CHARLESTON -- The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles wants to be more user-friendly for truckers.

The agency's International Registration Plan and International Fuel Tax Association sections will move into a new service center in The Shops at Kanawha in Charleston this month. The new office will have free parking and 12 customer service modules.

DMV Commissioner Joe Miller says the new space is designed to make it more convenient for truckers to pay taxes and take care of enforcement issues.

Miller says the DMV has invited the state Public Service Commission and the Internal Revenue Service to work out of the service center.
