Rockefeller discusses tourism
SHEPHERTDSTOWN, W.Va. -- U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller says tourism is important to West Virginia's economy and to the state's pride.
The West Virginia Democrat says he introduced legislation this year to help small businesses, which are the bulk of the state's tourism sector. The bill would raise the deduction that entrepreneurs can take for start-up costs to a maximum $10,000.
Rockefeller spoke Tuesday during the Governor's Conference on Tourism in Shepherdstown.
The conference brings together representatives from the travel industry, state and local officials and others with the aim of increasing visitors to West Virginia attractions.
Rockefeller says these groups must work together to compete with other states and countries for tourism dollars.
The conference concludes on Wednesday.
