Le Bistro open for lunch next to Pullman Square

HUNTINGTON -- The daytime restaurant Le Bistro is now open in the spot formerly occupied by Third and Ninth Deli-Market, at 905 3rd Ave., across from Pullman Square.

Le Bistro will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and then continue to reopen as Jason's du Soir Bistro at 5 p.m.

Le Bistro's chef is Brittany Barker, general manager is Matt Stickler and daytime manager is Robert Crickard.

Le Bistro is a country-French contemporary restaurant inspired by a restaurant once owned by Tom Houvouras in Huntington, Pam Abraham said of Le Bistro, which along with the evening bistro is owned by her son Robert Abraham and family.

Houvouras' restaurant opened in the 1970s and sold fresh roasted turkey and beef tenderloin, she said.

"We grew from that inspiration," Pam Abraham said. "We loved it. People stood in line for it. Every day, he had roasted turkeys right out of the oven."

The daytime bistro will serve a variety of meals based on roasted turkey, from a BLT to turkey gumbo to a turkey dinner and turkey-rice soup. It has other options as well, such as a beef tenderloin sandwich, salmon mousse, French Quarters shrimp dip with Polenta fries, French-style deviled eggs and more.

"We have comfort food," Abraham said. "We're a combination of comfort food and fresh food, and our desserts are out of this world. We have three desserts that the French believe in -- a shortcake with strawberries, rice pudding and a fabulous French chocolate cake."

An express menu is offered as well, with various combinations of soup, salad and sandwiches. Guests with more time can take after the French and take a more leisurely lunch, choosing from a selection of wine and beer, she said.

Abraham also drew attention to the decor on the walls, which is supplied by artists involved with the Marshall University Art Department. Right now, the walls are dedicated to the retired head of the art department, Michael Cornfeld. Also featured is art by the late Stan Sporny.
