Poll: Obama edges ahead in Ohio

THE POLL: Marist Poll, presidential race among likely voters in Ohio (20 electoral votes).

THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama 47, John McCain 45.

OF INTEREST: The race in this pivotal state is about even, with voters also split over which candidate has the better plan to bring about change. Independents are divided on which contender they support. More Obama backers are excited about their candidate than is the case among McCain's supporters.

DETAILS: Conducted Sept. 11-15 by telephone with 769 Ohio registered voters, including 565 likely voters. Margin of sampling error plus or minus 3.5 percentage points for registered voters, 4.5 points for likely voters.
