Rockafeller praises Obama
DENVER (AP) — West Virginia’s junior senator believes doubts about Barack Obama’s experience in foreign affairs are deeply misguided.
U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller told delegates at the Democratic National Convention that Obama grasps the complex issues that confront the United States in the 21st century.
Rockefeller said Obama’s Republican opponent, John McCain, still sees the world with a Cold War mentality.
Obama, Rockefeller said, will not shrink from using force against terrorism, but will also work to build strategic alliances with other countries.
As chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Rockefeller’s support helps Obama confront doubts that his experience — less than four years in the Senate — isn’t enough for the complexities of global politics.
McCain has repeatedly raised that point when criticizing Obama.
