Bailey wins Dem. primary for Cabell County Commission
HUNTINGTON -- Cabell County Commissioner Bob Bailey won the Democratic primary election Tuesday and is on to the general election in November, according to unofficial returns.
Bailey, who is in the final year of his third, six-year term, ran a campaign based on improved infrastructure and keeping consistency on the commission.
He defeated challengers Michael B. Maxey and Charles "Chuck" Zerkle Jr.
With all 71 precincts reporting, including absentee ballots and early voting totals, Bailey finished with 3,716 votes. Zerkle had 2,878, while Maxey had 1,263 votes.
"I'm very honored," Bailey said from the Elks Lodge in Huntington. "I've been laying the ground work (for the campaign) for 17 months."
Bailey said he met a lot of people who believe in what he's done for the county, from new ambulance stations to getting water and hydrants installed in rural parts of the county. He also has keyed in on helping seniors, saying people in that demographic know he allocated tax dollars for projects for the county's aging population.
Bailey will face Republican Greg Riley in the November general election. Riley ran unopposed in the primary.
