HUNTINGTON -- Robert "Bobby" Nelson, a candidate for one of the three open state delegate seats in District 16, was recently endorsed by the West Virginia Sierra Club Political Committee for his support of pro-environmental legislation.
In the latest edition of the club's newsletter, "The Mountain State Sierran," Nelson was listed with other notable pro-environmentalists, including District 17 Delegates Richard Thompson and Don Perdue. Altogether, two senators and 24 delegates were endorsed. Nelson has previously held office as a state delegate, senator and mayor of Huntington.
The endorsements came after the Political Committee mailed a survey questionnaire to all state and local candidates in March. The club received about 60 responses.
Political Chairwoman Regina Hendrix said in the newsletter they used the responses and their scorecard on the voting records of the incumbents to come up with the list of candidates.
