NAME: Gordon Ramey II

CANDIDATE FOR: Huntington City Council At Large (two seats)

PARTY: Republican

CITY: Huntington

CURRENT OFFICE OR OCCUPATION: I serve as the Scholarship and Enrollment Officer for Senior ROTC at West Virginia State University, University of Charleston, WVU Institute of Technology and Glenville State College.

OTHER WORK HISTORY: Detective/ Patrol and DARE Officer with the Huntington Police Department, Deputy US Marshal with the United States Marshals Service, Special Agent assigned to the General Services Administration, again at the Huntington Police Department as Chief of Police and Legal Advocate for Branches Domestic Violence Shelter. I served one year as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at WVU prior to serving a deployment to Afghanistan as an Embedded Training Team charged with training the Afghanistan Nation Army.

CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS: Past President of the Board of Directors for Branches Domestic Violence Shelter, Elks 313, Habitat for Humanity, American Legion Post 16, T-ball Coach for League 2, Treasurer for Little League 2, Vice President and Finical Secretary for the Gold Star Lodge 65 and volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters Christmas Tree Sale.

FAMILY: I am pleased to say I come from a very large family that mostly lives in the Tri-State area. I am also an owner of a Wheaten Terrier/Standard Poodle mix that I was lucky enough to adopt through Little Victories.

QUESTION & ANSWER: What are the top two problems in your district if you are running for a district seat, and how would you address them?

"First of all, as elected officials we must operate within our budgets. We cannot keep going back to the citizens demanding more taxes for fewer services. The most critical services a city offers its citizens are fire and police protection. We must find a way of maintaining both departments at an effective strength."

OTHER CANDIDATES: Ramey faces Republican Cal Kent and Democrats David Ball and Rebecca Thacker for two open seats in the general election.
