NAME: Glen Gainer
CANDIDATE FOR: West Virginia auditor
CITY: Parkersburg, W.Va.
BIOGRAPHY: Since 1993, Gainer has been committed to increasing government efficiency for residents from the eastern panhandle to the southern coalfields. He graduated from University of Charleston with a bachelor of arts degree. He is the state's official bookkeeper, Chief Inspector/Securities/Delinquent Land Commissioner. His leadership has made WV a national leader in government transparency. Gainer is chairman of board of directors of the National White Collar Crime Center; past president of National Electronic Commerce Coordinating Council, National Association of State Auditors Comptrollers and Treasurers, National Association of Comptrollers; member of National Executive Committee of AGA; and president of WV Jump$tart Coalition.
QUESTION & ANSWER: What would you do to provide the public with better access to information about the financial operations of the state?
"Last year I established a new state transparency website, transparencywv.org, for easy on-line access to state budgeting, revenues and expenditures. This site was awarded one of the highest rankings, "A-", for transparency in state government from the U.S. Public Interest Research Group. We strive to continue to expand the information online."
