NAME: John Ray Rice II

CANDIDATE FOR: Cabell County Magistrate

DUTIES OF THE OFFICE: Magistrates issue arrest and search warrants, hear misdemeanor cases, conduct preliminary examinations in felony cases and hear civil cases with $5,000 or less in dispute. Magistrates also issue emergency protective orders in cases involving domestic violence. The office's salary is $57,500.

EDUCATION: Graduated Barboursville High School. Class of 1983; Attended MU - non-graduate.

CURRENT OFFICE OR OCCUPATION: Teach Martials Arts and Currently District 6 Committeeman.

OTHER WORK HISTORY: Learned and trained under Master Kim in the Martial Arts. Trained and Competed at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Travelled and competed during the late 80's through the late 90's as an IOC Athlete as a National and International Competitor.

CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS: Volunteered my time to train and teach at Dr. Kim's School, students (a few adults, but mostly kids of all ages) for 30 years.

FAMILY: parents, Retired Magistrate John Ray Rice and Delma C. (Matthews) Rice; twin daughters, Bria Fenton McKee and Alexis Fenton; granddaughter, Adalyn Grace McKee; sisters, Kathy Childers, Tawna Johnson, Kim Y. Rice-Preece, Carol Rice.

QUESTION & ANSWER: What kinds of experience do you have with law enforcement or the law profession?

"I have both family and friends that work in and around Law Enforcement. They have my respect and admiration for their service. Though I, personally have not served in a capacity of Law Enforcement, my father, John Ray Rice, retired after 40+ years from the Magistrate Court system. I grew up with it all around me."
