Adkins, Chiles, Stephens all re-elected
HUNTINGTON — Cabell County’s Prosecuting Attorney Chris Chiles, Assessor Ottie Adkins and Surveyor Jeffrey Stephens all won re-election Tuesday night as incumbents running unopposed.
Chiles has held his office since 1990, having started as the assistant prosecuting attorney for Cabell County in 1982. He is the member of the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Council, as well as numerous other organizations. He also has taught classes at Marshall University in the Department of Criminal Justice as an adjunct faculty member and given numerous lectures throughout the state. He received 25,840 votes. Fifty-eight write-in votes also were cast.
Adkins has held the office of county assessor for the past three terms. His job is to manage the people who assess all of the property for tax purposes. That includes real estate, personal and business property. Adkins also was a Huntington police officer from 1959 to 1978, the chief of police from 1978 to 1984, a member of City Council from 1985 to 1988, Cabell County sheriff from 1989 to 1996 and the assessor since 1997. Adkins received 25,718 votes on Tuesday. Thirty-six write-in votes also were cast.
Stephens also is returning as the county’s surveyor. He received 23,854 votes. Twenty-eight write-in votes were cast.
